Filler Gangnam:
Matching Filler Type to Area

Treatment Guide·4 min read

Dermal fillers do more than plump lips; they’re used across the face to restore volume and refine contour. This guide covers which filler types suit which areas, how long results last, and the safety questions to ask before anyone injects you.

Matching filler density and technique to the right area is what separates a natural-looking result from an overfilled one.

What areas can dermal fillers treat in Korea? Fillers are commonly used in the cheeks, under-eye area, lips, jawline, and nasolabial folds, with the specific filler thickness and technique adjusted for each area’s needs. Results are visible immediately and are temporary, lasting from about 3 months to 2 years depending on the product and area treated.

What Dermal Fillers
Actually Treat

Dermal fillers, most commonly made from hyaluronic acid, restore lost volume or add subtle contour to specific facial areas. Cheeks and jawlines often use thicker, more structural filler for definition, while lips and under-eyes typically use a softer, more flexible formula suited to thinner skin. This is a different goal from wrinkle treatment approaches that relax muscle rather than add volume, though the two are frequently combined in the same visit.

Filler Types
by Facial Area

Numbing cream or a local anesthetic in the filler itself keeps most sessions comfortable, and the appointment typically takes 20 to 45 minutes depending on how many areas are treated.

Good Fit If You…What Happens
Want to restore volume in the cheeks or midfaceA thicker, more structural filler is placed deeper for lift and support
Want to soften the nasolabial folds or marionette linesA medium-density filler smooths these areas without looking overfilled
Want subtle lip enhancementA softer, flexible filler achieves natural movement and texture
Have an active skin infection near the treatment areaFiller injections are postponed until the area is fully healed

The serious risk to know about: the FDA warns that filler accidentally injected into a blood vessel can block blood flow and, although this is uncommon, cause skin necrosis, vision problems including blindness, or stroke. Ask who will inject you and whether the clinic keeps hyaluronidase on hand to dissolve HA filler in an emergency. Seek help at once if you notice severe pain, pale or dusky skin, or any change in vision during or after treatment. Swelling and bruising at injection sites are common for a few days.

How Long Results Last
and Maintenance

Denser fillers used in structural areas like the jawline tend to last longer, sometimes up to two years, while softer fillers in areas like the lips are metabolized faster and may need a touch-up closer to the six-month mark.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Should I get filler or Botox?
Filler adds volume and is suited to areas that have lost fullness, while Botox relaxes the muscles causing dynamic wrinkles. Many treatment plans use both, targeting different concerns in different areas.
Are the filler brands used in Korea safe?
Clinics in Korea use both imported and Korean-made hyaluronic acid fillers. Ask for the exact product name and check that it is approved by Korea’s MFDS, which regulates these fillers as Class 4, its highest-risk device grade. Knowing the product also matters if you later want it dissolved.
Does filler hurt?
Many hyaluronic acid fillers include the local anesthetic lidocaine, and topical numbing cream is often applied beforehand as well, so discomfort is generally minimal. Some areas, like the lips, tend to be more sensitive than others.
Can filler be reversed if I don’t like the result?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can typically be dissolved with an enzyme injection if needed, which is one advantage over more permanent filler materials. This should be discussed with your clinic before treatment so you understand your options.
What affects the cost of filler treatment?
Cost depends on the amount of filler used, the brand, and the specific area treated, so pricing varies considerably. Ask for a per-syringe estimate rather than a vague total to understand what you’re paying for.

  • Regulatory status: HA dermal fillers are Class 4 medical devices in Korea (the highest device tier), requiring full MFDS product approval under a dedicated filler review guideline, which was revised on 13 November 2025. Source: Korea.kr government briefing.
  • Approval is per product and per site, not for “fillers” as one category: the FDA approves specific HA filler products for specific facial zones (e.g. Juvéderm Voluma for cheeks/chin, Juvéderm Volux for the jawline, Vollure/Ultra Plus for nasolabial folds), not a blanket filler indication.
